Apple rolled out iOS 18.2 developer beta 1 earlier this week, introducing features like ChatGPT support, Image Playground, Image Wand, and Genmoji. While many users were eager to try the new image generation tools, access was limited to a waitlist, leaving most users frustrated. A few managed to get in early, but the majority remained in limbo. Today, however, a significant number of users are reporting that they've finally gained access.
On Friday, Apple informed developers that the rollout would happen “over the coming weeks,” suggesting a lengthy wait. However, it appears that users may not have to wait long after all.
In just the past hour, several users on social media have reported gaining access to the new features, including some acquaintances who couldn’t access them when the beta launched on Wednesday.
That said, it’s likely that many users are still waiting for their turn.
Apple has consistently highlighted its commitment to Responsible AI principles. In line with this, the company is implementing measures to assess how its AI tools could be misused or cause potential harm. This reflects an understanding that generative AI models, such as those behind the image generation features in iOS 18.2, can produce unforeseen outcomes.
“We implement safeguards at every stage of our process—design, model training, feature development, and quality evaluation—to identify potential misuse or harm from our AI tools. We are committed to continuously and proactively enhancing our AI capabilities based on user feedback,” Apple stated when it introduced Apple Intelligence in June.
